Metal spinning is the process of shaping sheet metal into contoured forms. Similar to a potter forming clay on a wheel, the spinner rotates a metal disk on a lathe and, applying pressure, shapes it into a new form. The results can be used in an infinite number of products, from SpaceX rocket engine parts to beautiful works of art. With this innovative DVD series, artisan Terry Tynan shows entrepreneurs, designers, product developers, and artists how to design and build products using the metal spinning technology.
In disc one Terry shows you: how to make your own metal spinning tools, do beading, trimming, and truing, convert a wood lathe into a metal spinning lathe, and there is a discussion and demonstration of posture. He then completes disc one with a discussion of speed control & pressure.
Disc two provides step-by-step instructions, and explains the techniques and methods of professional metal spinners. In two sizes, students will learn the four basic shapes that will provide a solid foundation before progressing into their own product development: the hemisphere, the cylinder, the venturi/flute, and the cone.
